April 7 - Wally Ewing on Women's History
At the 7 pm, April 7, 2011 meeting, Wally Ewing, a well-known history researcher and author from Grand Haven, will give a presentation on some of the women who were prominent in the area's development. He begins with Lasette Constant who lived from 1812-1907. Her father, Pierre Constant was a fur trader. Lasette then was also involved in the fur business. The presentation highlights other eras and ends with the contributions of Marjorie Boon, a recent mayor of Grand Haven. Marjorie served during a very pivotal time of new development. Wally's program deals with women's history but the lives of his interesting subjects had impact upon the course of area history as a whole. May 5 - Appraiser Joan Bunn The May 5 meeting will begin at 6 pm with appraiser Joan Bunn for our own annual "antiques road show" evening. Bring one or two items for appraisal. Hear what Joan has to say about all the items she sees that evening. Please note that there is a donation fee of $5 per item to be appraised.
June 2 - Community Haven Road trip
On the evening of June 2, 2011, we will gather around 6:30 pm and take a trip to Community Haven on Leonard St. Marjorie Bethke Viveen will lead a tour through the site's cemetery, which once had almost been forgotten. Marjorie will also take us through the barn which, itself, is quite a historic landmark.
